I mean, why do I really need to roll anyway? I mostly need to aim and slide along the three axis, which I can do using WASD plus two more keys for up/down. It just seems so much easier to have joystick hat = slide, joystick = attitude, and keyboard roll and forward/reverse motion. How did your control layout look? How were you able to handle sliding in two directions simultaneously while maintaining forward or backward movement, or slide while rolling and moving foward/backward, or really anything involving a simultaneous change in attitude and vertical and horizontal position?Įdit - on reflection - I guess if you had mouse 1 be forward and mouse 2 be backward, and used the mouse for attitude, you could use WASD (or your preferred equivalent) for slide up/down/left/right and then fire primary with the spacebar, but how do you roll? Q and E, I guess, but then you get into some really fancy finger gymnastics when you need to rapidly slide and roll in different directions (evading a homing missile or smart missile seekers or whatever). If all you're doing is circle-strafing, I suppose that would work, but I don't see how it's possible to play effectively with a kb/mouse. Because I'd rather stick the Joystick right in my eye rather than try playing another Descent game with it. My advice is to train your brain to use kbd+mouse without inverting the Y axis.
